This film follows the failing career and personal life of Walter Black. When his toy company begins to fall and his marriage and familial relationships fall apart alongside it. He gets kicked out of the house, finding solace in the voice of a puppet he finds in a dumpster.


What Makes It Great


None of us know Lawrence as the kind of actress that does lighthearted and family-friendly roles. With comedy being one fo the branches of her acting abilities, this one being a dark comedy makes it just a bit more fitting than an all-out feel-good watch. Releasing in the early years of her career, The Beaver is easily one of the more underrated titles in Lawrence's filmography. Don't Look Up made headlines when it came out in 2021. The Adam McKay film follows the straining journey and media storm that follows two virtually unknown astronomers, Kate Dibiasky and Dr. Randall Mindy, played by Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio. The two go to the public with their discovery of a comet that is set to destroy the planet. However, they were not met with the frantic panic that news like that would warrant.


What Makes It Great


This film was one of the most highly anticipated films of 2021. A lot of that could be credited to the absolutely stacked cast that included Lawrence, DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Mark Rylance, Timothée Chalamet, and even Ariana Grande. Lawrence is absolutely stunning in this comedy film and the balance between drama, comedy, and social commentary is something that makes Don't Look Up not only a must-watch film from Netflix, but also a must-watch from Lawrence.

The film follows the journey of Pat Solatano, played by Bradley Cooper, a man down on his luck and recently released from a mental institution. With the desire to get back with his wife and the looming pressure from his parents to become a dedicated Philadelphia Eagle fan, Pat meets the recently widowed Tiffany (Lawrence). The two come to an interesting agreement that is meant to reunite Pat with his wife, while Tiffany gets herself a dance partner.

Silver Linings Playbook is based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quick. The film can be seen as the birthplace of the Bradley Cooper-Jennifer Lawrence partnership that can never seem to go wrong. Directed by David O. Russell, Siliver Linings Playbook had just the right amount of sarcasm, drama, and intimacy that it felt like more than your standard comedy. Themes about mental illness, grief, and love all come to the forefront in the filmand show off a great side of Lawrence's talent. In fact, for her performance, Lawrence won the Oscar for Best Actress.

She comes across as an undeniable force in the comedy genre, and this film could easily be a window into what she could do in the future. Doing a hilarious film like No Hard Feelings after her hiatus from acting was a genius move on her part and if you are itching to see Lawrence at her best, do not count out this one.
