MCU: 5 Characters Jennifer Lawrence Could Play

Kevin Feige is working hard at maintaining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as one of the top movie franchises to ever exist. Casting for these movies have gotten quite the buzz, and it seems like almost all of Hollywood can be seen in the franchise. Headlines for who’s getting what role is all that anybody is reading about nowadays, and the latest rumor is about Jennifer Lawrence coming back to Marvel and not as Mystique. Indeed, her X-Men movies were not directly connected to the MCU as audiences know it today, but the X-Men are, of course, a part of Marvel Comics.

Fans of Marvel are looking at past movies that were not a part of the MCU and the actors that were in them. Some of the fans think that these actors deserve another chance in the superhero franchise and are looking at them to join the upcoming casting announcements. There are plenty of new heroes that are being planned to enter the MCU, and some of the forgotten actors that were involved in non-MCU movies have the talent to play some truly iconic characters. Lawrence is one of those actors, and here are 5 characters she could play.

5 Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew)

SpiderWoman (1)
Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics developed a complex origin story for Spider-Woman, but her place in the universe is firm and extremely entertaining. Jessica Drew received her powers through experimentation, which left her completely alone and working for the wrong people. It took her a while, but she eventually realized she was wrong and became a superhero. Spider-Woman becomes best friends with Captain Marvel and even joins the agency S.W.O.R.D, which was just introduced in the MCU via WandaVision. She later joins the Avengers to further her career as a hero.

Adding Spider-Woman to the MCU would be a new dimension to the Avengers team, especially if she was played by Lawrence. She has a darker beginning than most others found on the Avengers team. Lawrence is great at tapping into darker emotions and would fill in Jessica Drew's shoes perfectly.

4 Angela

Marvel Comics

Angela within the comic book universe is one of the biggest characters with ties to Asgard that has not been introduced in the MCU. Angela is the sister to both Loki and Thor, who was exiled to Heven, which is the 10th Asgardian realm. She escaped that realm and found her way to the Guardians of the Galaxy. During that time, Angela became the Queen of Hel temporarily. Games Radar says that the MCU used some of Angela's storyline in Thor: Ragnarök for their version of Hela, but can easily add her story in if they needed to.

Lawrence would be perfect for this role, who has even said that she would love to join the Guardians universe. She is able to draw on the stoic and hard features that Asgardian characters are usually portrayed as. There's also an obvious way for Angela to be introduced into the MCU as Asgard needs a new queen.

3 Black Cat

Black Cat is a free-spirit cat burglar that started out as a nemesis for Spider-Man. She later on became a partner and friend to the web-slinging hero, and she became somewhat of a hero herself as time went on. Lately, Black Cat has been getting her own comic book series, where she led a gang of thieves, confronted the man who taught her everything she knows, sought out the Infinity Stones, got her own Iron Man suit, and even turned into an Asgardian goddess.

Lawrence would really be able to take the villain-turned-hero into one of the best heroes the MCU could ever see. Black Cat is a multifaceted character, who doesn't want to be a hero and would be content doing her own thing until she meets Spider-Man. Even if Spider-Man wasn't attached to the Black Cat character initially, she has more than enough material to make an exciting live-action feature film.

2 Spider-Gwen (Gwen Stacy)

Sony Pictures

Gwen Stacy is also known as Spider-Gwen in a different dimension. The origin story of Spider-Gwen is that she gets bitten by a radioactive spider rather than Peter Parker. The comics show her as Peter's first girlfriend who ends up dying by the Green Goblin. In the Spider-Verse, fans were able to see the web-slinging heroine when the Miles Morales reality collided with hers. Spider-Gwen's tragic beginnings even mirror that of Spider-Man's as she lost someone close to her — her best friend Peter. Her version of Peter was obsessed with having powers and became her version of the lizard.

Spider-Gwen thought she was just killing a monster when she took on the lizard only to find out it was her closest friend. If this was to be played by Lawrence, it would be interesting to see Marvel age the character allowing her to play adult Spider-Gwen. It would bring a new layer to the Spider-story everyone knows, and audiences could see how grief and loss changed her as a hero years after the fact.

1 Invisible Woman (Sue Storm)

Sue Storm The Invisible Woman of the Fantastic Four
Marvel Comics

Sue Storm makes up one of the four in The Fantastic Four team. Sue and her brother lose their parents at a very young age, and she quickly becomes the mother figure in her brother's life. Sue was exposed to a cosmic storm, which gave her superpowers. Along with her brother and two others, they build a team called The Fantastic Four, where they would stop anything that threatens Earth. Sue is called Invisible Woman, and has two distinct powers: invisibility and force fields. Her invisibility power bends light waves, which allows her to make herself and other objects invisible.

Marvel has decided that The Fantastic Four movie is in their roster, but haven't released casting details yet. Lawrence's name has been mentioned multiple times since she was involved in the X-Men films. She has proven that she has the confidence that embodies Sue Storm after playing Mystique. With The Fantastic Four looking like the top players for the next phase of the MCU, Screen Rant says adding Lawrence would be a great start.
