Scream: 10 Legacy Characters the Horror Franchise Should Bring Back for Scream VII

Scream VII: You either love the idea or you hate it. It’s said that the seventh installment is most likely going to be the last movie in this particular franchise before they reboot it. It’ll be interesting to see where the reboot could go, what they would change and what they would keep, and how the audience would potentially tear the cast apart. Since Scream VII will most likely be the big kahuna, the end to all ends, and the final chapter, the writers will have to pull out all the stops.

So, who’s to say they won’t bring back some legacy characters? It’s always nostalgic when horror movies bring back someone from before that we know and love, or maybe even hate. That being said, let’s take a look at ten legacy characters that could possibly and should make a return to Scream VII.

10 Sheriff Burke

Sheriff-Burke Scream-1996
Dimension Films

In Halloween Ends, they did a great thing by bringing back Officer Hawkins to face Michael Myers one last time. So how great would it be if they brought back Sheriff Burke one last time? In Scream (1996), he was the one to falsely accuse Sidney’s dad, Neil Prescott, and led the investigation astray. This could be his redemption arc, as he would clearly be older, perhaps wiser, and ultimately ready to take down Ghostface once and for all. Plus, since Dewey and Judy are dead, it would be interesting to see if Burke came back to replace them.

9 Hank Loomis

Dimension Films

Hank Loomis, father of Ghostface Billy Loomis, is an interesting character. He was very hands-on with his son when Billy was first accused, adamant that he had nothing to do with it. Now that we know Sam is Billy’s daughter, that means Hank is her grandfather, so how does that play into it? Would he come to Sam with an alliance, as the core four would most likely be targeted again, or would he come as a threat? Where is Hank Loomis? All we have to know is that he’s alive and a potential problem.

8 Neil Prescott

Dimension Films

Neil Prescott, Sidney’s father, was falsely accused of being the killer in the first Scream. We don’t see much from him after the first installment, and you can’t help but wonder where he is. Now, it wouldn’t be necessary for him to have a major role in Scream VII, since we’re more interested in Tara and Sam’s journey right now.

However, if Sidney could come back for a final showdown, perhaps they could at least have a conversation between daughter and father one last time. Or even more so when Neil comes back to Woodsboro to present a united front against the next potential Ghostface.

7 Joel

Dimension Films

Joel is arguably one of the smartest side characters since he literally left in Scream 2. He got out of there! He was Gale Weather’s cameraman after Kenny was brutally murdered, and at the first sign of trouble, Joel’s got his antenna up. He knows what’s up when it comes to sticking around this particular group of people who are constantly targeted, and straight up leaves Gale to fend for herself.

Can you blame him? He comes back at the end of the movie, and he’s not talked about after Scream 2, so we can assume he’s alive. Bring back Joel to work with Gale again!

6 Martha Meeks

martha meeks
Dimension films

Martha Meeks has already made two appearances in the Scream franchise, first as just Randy’s sister and then as Chad and Mindy’s mom. She doesn’t have much characterization since she’s playing someone’s relative, so it would be interesting to see her step into her role even more in the seventh installment. If she helped lead the investigation by taking Randy’s movie knowledge, she could really be a great character.

Plus, more interactions with the core four—Chad, Mindy, and even Sidney—would be great. Could she be the next Ghostface, fueled by rage over what happened to her kids? Maybe so, so don’t count out Martha!

5 Mark

Patrick Dempsey as Kincaid in Scream 3
Dimension Films

We want more Mark Kincaid, and Patrick Dempsey coming back to reprise his role would be stellar. Mark is presumed to be Sidney’s husband and the father of her children, since there’s no other Mark featured in the franchise. Mark could easily come back with Sidney after she makes her return to Woodsboro and possibly replace Dewey. Not that we could ever replace Dewey Riley, but essentially, his position needs to be filled, and Mark Kincaid could be that person.

4 Stu Macher

Stu Macher (Scream)
Dimension Films

There’s a big part of the Scream fandom that wants to believe Stu Macher is alive. He was stabbed by Billy and then electrocuted by a television falling on his head, but is he really dead? Could there be a storyline where Stu Macher is alive? We wouldn’t be quick to write it off.

Since Scream VII is going to have to do something huge to stand apart from the other installments, why not bring Stu back? Stu as one of the potential Ghostfaces would be absolutely epic, which is definitely expected, and Matthew Lillard would crush the role completely.

3 Gale

Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers in Scream
Dimension Films

Gale is a true final girl along with Sidney. She has been brought back through each movie, and luckily, she’s not dead yet, even though maybe she should be. Gale Weathers needs to be in Scream VII; it wouldn’t feel complete without her. She’s a fantastic journalist; she has an abundance of resources, and she could genuinely survive just about anything.

2 Kirby

Jasmin Savoy Brown and Hayden Panettiere as Mindy and Kirby Scream 6
Paramount Pictures

Kirby made a great comeback in Scream VI as an ally to Tara and Sam. After being stabbed and presumed dead in Scream 4, Kirby’s presence was welcomed in the newest installment. Kirby has the characteristics to team up with everyone to take down the next Ghostface (s) or snap and become the next killer. Why not? She lent a hand in Scream VI, but after almost dying again, what could that do to Kirby’s mental state? Whatever happens, we hope Kirby is brought back and is more than just a minor side character.

1 Sidney

Sidney Prescott
Dimension Films

Okay, even though Scream VI did fantastic without the presence of Neve Campbell’s Sidney, you can’t end the franchise without her. There has to be some sort of plot line where Sidney can come back and go toe-to-toe with Ghostface once again. Sidney’s absence was definitely felt in this past movie, so fans would absolutely welcome her back to see her in a final showdown with Ghostface.
