All 5 Animated Movies Starring Chris Pratt, Ranked Worst to Best

The charming and delightfully endearing Chris Pratt is one of the silver screen's most electrifying leading men, having first risen to prominence as the beloved Andy Dwyer in the celebrated sitcom Parks and Recreation. Pratt skyrocketed to superstardom in 2014 when he took on the unforgettable role of Peter Quill A.K.A. Star-Lord in the blockbuster knockout Guardians of the Galaxy, with the MCU film successfully redefining his image and establishing him as a sought-after star.

Pratt would go on to headline other lucrative franchises like the Jurassic World trilogy and The Lego Movie franchise, while also appearing in popular films including The Magnificent Seven, Passengers, and The Tomorrow War. The charismatic actor has notably lent his voice to numerous animated projects in recent years, many of which have dominated the box office and earned appreciation from moviegoers. Here is every animated film Chris Pratt has starred in, ranked.

5 The Garfield Movie (2024)

Chris Pratt's latest animated extravaganza has the MCU star tackling the iconic role of the lazy, lasagna-loving orange feline in the 2024 comedy The Garfield Movie, which features a stacked ensemble cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Nicholas Hoult, and Snoop Dogg and follows the comic strip character as he is reunited with his estranged street cat father Vic, whom he believed had abandoned him in an alley as a kitten. With the help of his trusted sidekick Odie, Garfield begrudgingly helps Vic carry out a wild and daring heist at a milk farm that ultimately begins to mend their rocky relationship.

A Commercial Hit But Critical Dud

Pratt took over voicing the lazy tabby cat after Bill Murray had previously starred as the titular character in two big-screen adaptations from the 2000s, and was director Mark Dindal's first choice to star as the Monday-loathing protagonist. Similarly to the legendary comedian's outing in the adaptations, T he Garfield Movie dominated the box office but failed to attract appreciation from critics.

During its theatrical run, the animated flick earned an impressive $257 million at the box office, though many felt giving Garfield a backstory was unnecessary and that the film didn't capture the essence of the popular Jim Davis comic.

4 The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)

The highly-anticipated follow-up to the original smash hit and final entry in the exciting toy franchise, 2019's The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part once again centers on the earnest everyman Emmet Brickowski (Pratt) as he joins forces with his lady love Lucy (Elizabeth Banks) and his loyal pals to protect the residents of Bricksburg from yet another terrifying threat: Duplo aliens who destroy everything that dares get in their path. The determined gang must venture into new worlds and test their creative skills in order to prevent the universe-destroying "Armamageddon".

Sequel Can't Live Up to Original

The zany sequel featured the return of familiar faces like Pratt, Banks, and Will Arnett, while newcomers Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, and Maya Rudolph appeared as entertaining new characters. In the second outing, Pratt pulled double-duty and voiced not only Emmet but also Rex Dangervest, the rebellious and rugged adventurer who is based on the actor's most famous characters.

While The Second Part made over $199 million during its theatrical release, it was still a box office disappointment due to its $99 million budget and despite its fairly warm critical reception, the sequel was unable to capture the magic of its predecessor.

3 The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)

Featuring a stacked ensemble led by Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black, the electrifying 2023 adventure comedy The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a nostalgia-fueled big-screen extravaganza that focuses on the iconic brothers Mario and Luigi as they find themselves transported to a wondrous new world where they become swept up in a power struggle for Mushroom Kingdom as the nefarious Bowser attempts to destroy the land ruled by Princess Peach. Audiences Can't Get Enough of the Fun Nostalgia

The Super Mario Bros. Movie had the biggest worldwide weekend opening for an animated film and went on to gross over $1.3 billion at the box office, shattering records and dazzling viewers all across the world. Despite garnering a mixed-bag response from critics, the feel-good and vibrant flick was a slam dunk for audiences, who gave the comedy an A CinemaScore and an exceptional 95% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie earned three Golden Globe nominations including Best Animated Feature Film, and because of the dazzling commercial response, a sequel is set to be released on April 3, 2026.

2 Onward (2020)

Set in a spellbinding suburban fantasy universe where magic used to be commonplace, the thought-provoking 2020 adventure film Onward tells the moving story of elf brothers Barley and Ian Lightfoot (Pratt & Tom Holland) as they embark upon a noble journey to track down a mystical artifact that will allow them to spend one more day with their beloved late father Wilden (Kyle Bornheimer). After realizing what her sons are doing, their courageous mother Laurel (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) teams up with the fierce warrior Corey (Octavia Spencer) to stop their dangerous quest and safely return them home.

A Heartwarming & Poignant Picture

Pratt and Holland improvised much of their dialogue together during the recording process and their chemistry was palpable, as they had previously worked alongside one another in the MCU.

Onward was lauded upon its release for its poignant premise, endearing voice performances, and stunning animation, though it failed to be a financial success due to the pandemic causing many theaters to close. The powerful Pixar picture was nominated for both a Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, with Times UK declaring, "It's transcendent, cathartic, structurally smart and delivers a soulful narrative twist. It's painful, but in the best way."

1 The Lego Movie (2014)

Based on the enduring toy line of the same name, the 2014 adventure comedy The Lego Movie spectacularly brings the childhood plastic figurines to life and follows the optimistic construction worker and everyman Emmet Brickowski (Pratt) as he is accidentally mistaken for a fabled person known as "The Special" who is prophesied to help protect the universe from destruction. Emmet becomes the ill-equipped leader of a resistance group who makes it their mission to stop the evil tyrant Lord Business (Will Ferrell) from altering and conquering the Lego world and molding it into his own selfish vision.

A Career-Defining Year for Pratt

Both a critical and commercial triumph, The Lego Movie received widespread acclaim for its delightful blend of humor and heart, vibrant animation, and charismatic voice performances, bowing out at the box office with a whopping $470.7 million profit against a $60–65 million budget. Not only did fans thoroughly enjoy the unique and refreshing premise, but critics gave the animated flick a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score, with The Lego Movie also being named one of the Top Ten Films of the year by the National Board of Review.

The recipient of both Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations, the comedy successfully launched the lucrative franchise (consisting of three more movies) and landed on numerous best-of lists including those by Rolling Stone, Parade, and Empire. The release of The Lego Movie coincided with that of the MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy, both of which helped skyrocket Pratt to superstardom and helped establish the charming actor as one of Hollywood's most sought-after leading men.
