The Expendables franchise has been a surprising, action-filled, fun one, full of action heroes whose best times as box office darlings have passed. It has also been a success, as this will be its fourth film. What will happen? There are many theories for the upcoming movie, for now, here is where you’ve seen the cast before.
Andy Garcia
Andy Garcia needs no presentation, as he’s been acting since the late '70s, although he became a star 10 years later when he was part of The Untouchables and The Godfather III in less than three years. After those movies, he became a lead actor in Hollywood, working in films like Hero, Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead, and Night Falls in Manhattan. He has never stopped working, as he became part of the Ocean’s franchise and appeared in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. This will be his first time in The Expendables universe.
Randy Couture
Randy Couture is a UFC heavyweight champion, actor, and martial artist. He’s been acting since 2005 in bit parts as a military man or a tough guy, but his big break was in The Expendables, appearing in all the films in the franchise as Toll Road. His last appearance on TV has been in NCIS: Los Angeles, and he has eight upcoming projects, so we'll be seeing much more of him next year, and not only in EXPEND4BLES.
Jacob Scipio
Jacob Scipio has been working in movies and TV series in the United Kingdom for more than a decade, but his breakout role came just three years ago when he was the bad guy in Bad Boys for Life, where he was Will Smith’s character long-lost kid, and might even appear in the sequel. After that charismatic performance, he was part of Michael B. Jordan’s Without Remorse and had an important role in the never-seen Batgirl film. This will be his first time acting in The Expendables franchise, but if we had to bet, he’ll be a staple of the franchise from now on.
Iko Uwais
Iko Uwais is a martial artist, actor, stuntman, and fight choreographer who is most famous for his acting roles in Gareth Evans's films. It all started with Merantau, but it was his lead role in The Raid and its sequels that made him an action star. His first American role was in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, before having a much bigger part in Mark Wahlberg’s Mile 22. This will be his first appearance in The Expendables franchise, and it looks like he's going to be playing the bad guy.
Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone has been making incredible films for more than 40 years. He was Rocky, Rambo, and the biggest name in action films in the '80s not named Schwarzenegger. The actor even got an Academy Award nomination for both acting and writing Rocky, something that has only happened two other times (Charles Chaplin in The Great Dictator and Orson Welles in Citizen Kane, not bad company to have...).
In the last few years, Stallone has been part of the Creed franchise, James Gunn’s films like The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, and has had his own prestige TV show, Tulsa King. He has appeared in all The Expendables films, as this franchise has been his baby from the start, as he wrote and directed the first film, and has written all of its sequels until this one.
Tony Jaa
Tony Jaa is a martial artist and stuntman who got his start in Thailand cinema as a stuntman and action star. The Ong Bak franchise, where he did all his stunts, made him a star in Asia for more than a decade before he decided to debut in American films with Fast & Furious 7 and xXx: Return of Xander Cage. This will be Jaa’s first appearance in The Expendables franchise.
Dolph Lundgren
Dolph Lundgren became famous for his role as Drago in Rocky IV in 1985 and began doing action films shortly after, with Red Scorpion and Universal Soldier. He spent most of the '90s and 2000s in direct-to-video action films before coming back to prominence with The Expendables franchise (he’s done all the films), and appearing in Creed II, reprising his breakout role, and Aquaman.
About appearing in the first Expendables, Lundgren told Looper: “It was being directed by Sly, and he's a very, very smart man. He created "Rocky," and "The Expendables" and I think the timing was good because he had old school fights, shootouts, and more of our visual effects. Kind of older guys who're washed up, that nobody wants, and they do these missions for the government, and if they get killed, nobody cares. I thought it was a good idea.
Megan Fox
Most people first saw Megan Fox in The Transformers movies directed by Michael Bay where she played romantic interest Mikaela Banes. After that, she did both commercial movies like Ninja Turtles and more indie projects like the misunderstood Jennifer’s Body. In the last few years, she’s proven she has a sense of humor about herself, cameoing in The Dictator, and also showing she can do comedy with the best, as her stint in New Girl was surprisingly funny.
Her last films released have been Big Gold Brick and Good Mourning (written and directed by her partner Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly). This will be her first The Expendables film, but looking at the trailer and her chemistry with Jason Statham, this could be the first of many in the franchise going forward.
50 Cent
50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) is more known as a rapper than an actor, as he was discovered in 2000 by Eminem and signed with his label after the Slim Shady listened to his mixtape Guess Who’s Back. His first album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’ was such a commercial success that he became one of the most-known rappers in the world.
In 2005, he started acting in action movies like Home of the Brave or Righteous Kill. Since then, he’s been mixing his music and acting careers, even being part of the B-movie franchise Escape Plan. His latest greatest and most famous roles have been as Jordan Mains in Southpaw and Levi Enson in Den of Thieves. This will be his first appearance in The Expendables franchise.
Jason Statham
Jason Statham has been part of this franchise from the start, and it made perfect sense, as he has done as many action films as any of his co-stars. The actor got his breakout roles in the Guy Ritchie gangster world, being part of both Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. After that, he got his first action franchise in The Transporter and confirmed he was a star in Crank.
In the last few years, he has been most famous for being part of the Fast and Furious franchise as Deckard Shaw and for fighting with a Megalodon in The Meg. He’ll reprise both roles and his Lee Christmas in EXPEND4BLES later this year.
