9 Suspiria (2018) – 65%
Suspiria's newer adaptation in 2018 turned the original 1977 version into fresh hell. If you're unfamiliar with the entrancing story, it captures the operations of the Markos Tanz dance company on the cutting edge of creative and physical ability. Mortez's perceptive character, Patricia, ends up leaving the group after experiencing what first looks like psychological distress, but soon devolves along with the company into much deeper circumstances.
8 Kick-Ass (2010) – 76%
Kick-Ass is a memorable film for so many reasons, and Mortez's addition to the cast is absolutely one of them. Her turn as the young antihero Hit-Girl and Mindy Macready is probably her most iconic role, dual or otherwise, and definitely her most instantly recognizable one. Although slightly controversial, due to the character's obscenity and Moretz's status as a preteen back then, Hit-Girl's presence in the film franchise contributes to its reputation.
7 Shadow in the Cloud (2020) – 77%
In Shadow in the Cloud, Mortez stars as Maude Garrett, a determined pilot officer who takes a chance to transport an essential item to Samoa for the Royal Air Force, requiring travel by Flying Fortress. Since the story is set during World War II, encountering a crew of all men is expected, but Maude also stands out because of Moretz's performance and presence on screen. Her character spots a concerning creature while they're in the clouds, giving the film a similar feel to the Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet."

Clouds of Sils Maria is a stellar film with a cast that's as great as the movie itself, which includes Juliette Binoche and Kristen Stewart, and of course, Chloë Grace Moretz. Her character, Jo-Ann Ellis, is a problematic actress who works with Binoche's protagonist, Maria Enders. Jo-Ann's entanglement and character development seem to personify controversial directions that a number of young actors seem to fall into as a result of fame, fortune, and freedom.
2 Hugo (2011) – 93%
Viewers take a jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring journey in Hugo, transporting them to Paris for a dangerous and exciting adventure. The film is based on the massive children's book The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick, bringing its striking illustrated world from page to screen and adding so much more color into it. Moretz plays Isabelle, the inquisitive goddaughter of toy shop owner Georges Méliès who helps Hugo throughout his own journey.
1 The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (2013) – 100%
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is a spectacular anime film directed by Isao Takahata, based on the Japanese monogatari The Tale of the Woodcutter. Its hand-drawn appearance sets its animation apart from other stories told through the art medium, and in its English version, Moretz voices Princess Kaguya herself.
The film details the Princess's growth from a tiny creature into a royal figure, who also finds herself faced by the darker parts of her destiny catching up with her. Like so many other English dubs, this one introduces more Western audiences to Japanese media.
