There is no doubt Pete Davidson is one of the most famous people alive today. He is well known for his standup specials, appearances on Saturday Night Live, and high-profile dating history. Davidson is also a skilled writer, as evidenced by his work on The King of Staten Island and the Peacock drama series, Bupkis. Now, he is taking the world by storm with acting roles in some of Hollywood's biggest films.
Bringing both major star power and an effortless charm, we should expect Davidson to appear in many more films over the coming years. In fact, he is currently set to appear in A24's Wizardsalongside Naomi Scott, Sean Harris, and Orlando Bloom. As we await his future roles, here's a look at Pete Davidson's best movies so far, ranked.
9 Meet Cute (2022)
Released in Fall 2022 on Peacock, Meet Cute is a cute rom-com that stars Davidson and Kaley Cuoco in the lead roles. Cuoco plays Shiela, a woman struggling with her mental health that comes across a time machine. She uses the time machine to repeatedly relive her favorite date, negligent of the consequences of time travel. Meet Cute is nothing out of the super ordinary, and does find itself relying on tried-and-true tropes, but it is sweet and, at times, clever.
8 Set It Up (2018)
Marketed using the tagline, "finding love takes some assistants," Set It Up follows two assistants as they attempt to trick their bosses into falling in love. The two assistants, Harper (Zoey Deutch) and Charlie (Glen Powell), see their mission as a way to get their bosses off their backs. Davidson has a small role in the film as Duncan, the roommate of Charlie. For those looking for some lighthearted fun, Set It Up is a film that is very enjoyable to watch, albeit being a bit predictable.
7 Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)
As its title might imply, Bodies Bodies Bodies is a slasher film, throwing a group of 20-somethings into an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery. The film explores the nature of friendships in the modern era, examining the human ego and asking what it means to really be connected. Bodies Bodies Bodies is a socially-conscious whodunnit that tackles major themes with an irresistible dose of dark comedy. The "Gen Z-ness" of the film draws comparisons to Euphoria, but such comparisons fail to represent the ambition of the film.
6 The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019)
In The Angry Birds Movie 2, Red, Chuck, and Bomb form an alliance with old friends and enemies to save Bird and Pig Island. Davidson has a voice role in the film as Jerry, an Eagle working for the powerful Zeta.
The Angry Birds Movie 2 is funny, exciting, beautifully animated, and an improvement over its predecessor in virtually every way. The film precedes the arrival of fellow animated video-game films, Sonic the Hedgehog and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
5 Big Time Adolescence (2019)
Davidson plays Zeke in Big Time Adolescence, a drug-dealing college dropout who spends his time hanging out with the younger brother of his ex. Mo, the younger brother, is an impressionable 16-year-old, and looks to Zeke as a role model. However, Zeke is obviously not the best influence, and leads Mo down a questionable path. Big Time Adolescence excels as a coming-of-age story highlighting the difficult road to adulthood. It is a comedy, but like all great coming-of-age stories, it does much more than just make you laugh.
4 The Dirt (2019)
Despite the negative reviews from critics, The Dirt stands as one of the better musical biopics in the past few years. The film stars Douglas Booth, Colson Baker (a.k.a. Machine Gun Kelly), Daniel Webber, and Iwan Rheon as the members of heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. The Dirt tells the story of the world's most notorious rock band, showcasing the sex, drugs, fame, and rock 'n roll that dominated their lives. Davidson portrays Tom Zutaut, the record label executive that signed Guns N' Roses and Mötley Crüe in the '80s.
3 The King of Staten Island (2020)
Directed by Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Trainwreck), The King of Staten Island stars Davidson as high-school dropout Scott Carlin. In the film, Scott grapples with the loss of his firefighter father, mirroring the real-life experiences of Davidson, who lost his father in the September 11 attacks. The King of Staten Island presents a semi-autobiographical take on Davidson's life and succeeds in finding a balance between serious drama and comedy.
2 Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
The Transformers franchise visits the '90s with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, serving as a follow-up to 2018's Bumblebee. In what is considered to be among his best film roles, Davidson voices Mirage, an Autobot that transforms into a silver-blue Porsche. The Autobot forms a strong friendship with the film's human protagonist, Noah Diaz, as they work together to fight the Terrorcons and Predacons. Davidson describes his performance as "The Mask meets Bugs Bunny," and is consistently regarded as a key highlight of Rise of the Beasts.
1 The Suicide Squad (2021)
The Suicide Squad is an R-rated blend of superhero and war films, following the eponymous Suicide Squad on a mission to the hostile island territory of Corto Maltese. Davidson appears in the film as Blackguard, a rogue that is the last person someone would want on their team. The Suicide Squad is one of the less divisive DC films, winning over the hearts of many with its humor, action, lovable characters, and heart.
