6 Charlie’s Angels (2011)

The 2011 reboot of Charlie’s Angels was an action crime drama and is a complete remake of the original series of the same name. It starred Annie Ilonzeh as former Miami cop Kate Prince, Minka Kelly as former street racer Eve French, Rachael Taylor as former thief Abby Sampson, Ramon Rodriquez as former hacker John Bosley, and Victor Garber as the voice of Charles “Charlie” Townsend.


Kate, Eve, and Abby are recruited to work for the Townsend agency as private investigators, with John aiding them. The series was a total bomb, with the series canceled after only four episodes due to low ratings. Three more episodes aired, with the eighth episode left unaired in the United States.




5 Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003)

The action-comedy film Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle is the sequel to the 2000 Charlie’s Angels film. The cast features Cameron Diaz as Natalie Cook, Drew Barrymore as Dylan Sanders, Lucy Liu as Alex Munday, Demi Moore as Madison Lee, and Bernie Mac as Jimmy Bosley.


In the film, Natalie, Dylan, and Alex work with Bosley’s adoptive brother, Jimmy, to recover titanium rings stolen from the Department of Justice that shows people listed in the witness protection program. During the adventure, they cross paths with former Angel Madison Lee. Released in 2003, the film was number one at the box office on opening weekend but received mixed reviews from critics.



4 Charlie’s Angels (2019)

The most recent film in the franchise, Charlie’s Angels was released in 2019. The film is a continuation of the 2000 film of the same name and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska star as the new generation of Angels working for the Townsend Agency.


By the events of this film, the Townsend Agency has expanded international with multiple teams of Angels guided by several Bosleys, which is now a rank named after John Bosley. Discovering that an energy conservation device named Calisto can trigger fatal seizures when used, a new team of Angels, comprised of Sabina Wilson (Stewart), Elena Houghlin (Scott), and Jane Kano (Balinska) come together to protect the world from Calisto. The film had one of the worst opening box offices of 2019, receiving mixed reviews from critics.



3 Charlie’s Angels: Animated Adventures (2003)

An animated prequel web series was created in 2003 called Charlie’s Angels: Animated Adventures. The series consists of six episodes and follows the Angels on a mission to find the kidnapped US Marshal Ray Carter. The events of the series lead up to the film Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. The series is mostly silent and not very well-known in the franchise. Regardless, Charlie’s Angels: Animated Adventures is an interesting view into what happened between the 2000 and 2003 films.

The first film in the franchise, Charlie’s Angels features the second generation of Angels. Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu star as Natalie, Dylan, and Alex, respectively. Unlike the original series, which was more dramatic, the film takes a more comedic approach. As the second generation of Angels, the trio are masters of disguise, espionage, and martial arts. Charlie assigns them to find software genius Eric Knox, who has created a voice-recognition system and heads his own company.


Believed to have been kidnapped by Roger Corwin, who runs a communications-satellite company, the Angels set out to take him down and find the missing man. The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics, with the performances of Diaz, Barrymore, and Liu being praised.

Naturally, the best in the franchise must be the original Charlie’s Angels series. The series had five seasons, totaling 115 episodes. Originally, Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Jaclyn Smith starred in the leading roles as the original Angels, Sabrina Duncan, Jill Munroe, and Kelly Garrett, respectively. John Forsythe provided the voice of Charles “Charlie” Townsend.


The series initially received mixed reviews from critics but was very popular with audiences. It became a top 10 hit in the Nielsen listings for its first two seasons. Even after it was canceled in 1981, the series continued to be a fan-favorite.
